This view is of a historically important location in North India. It is a naturally ...

... made lake known as Parashar Lake situated in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Located at a distance of 49 km from Mandi town, Parashar Lake attracts both local people and tourists throughout the year. Once you reach there, you will surely fall in love with the scenic beauty of this spot that has a three storied temple located beside the lake. The lake too has a floating island in the middle that will leave you wonder-struck by its scenic charm. Himachal is a land of Gods and Goddesses. Everywhere you will come across some place of pilgrimage that shows the deep-seated belief of people in the Almighty. This temple is dedicated to the hermit Parashar who, they say, had lived here for quite some time thousands of years ago. As sage Parashar has come to be viewed as a demi-god, that speaks a lot about the historical and cultural significance of this place. One of the kings of Mandi, Nansen got this temple constructed in the thirteenth century. It is believed that the temple of Prashar Rishi located near the lake is carved out of one Deodar tree. The traditional 'Himachali' architecture of the temple shows the perfect blend of architecture with the landscape. Located at an altitude of about 2700 meters bove sea level, the lake is an ideal holiday destination away from the noise and din of city life. Parashar Lake is located between the tall cedar trees. From the corner of the lake, tourists can feast their eyes on the snow-clad hilltops and mountains along with crystal clear water of the Sutlej river that flows ceaselessly towards the south. Do visit this ethereal place at least once if you happen to come to India.
