AskSteem: What are your thoughts on Voice?

지난달

No, not Golos, but the Twitter competitor that Block One announced recently.

From what I've gathered so far without researching much or caring enough about it:

You can't buy it, only earn. Sell I guess you can, but who's gonna buy it if you can't buy it? Anyway.

ID Verification to fight bots and fake users. Remember that one Korean game that had strict ID verifcation to avoid botters yet people went and purchased the rights to use social security numbers from homeless people? Yeah that was just for a game.

Then something about buying power to boost your comments to the top. Something about if you've boosted your comment/post but someone outboosts you you get part or all of the bid back. Interesting I guess.

Anyway, those of you that were on Steem before we went linear curve may remember all the "black market/behind the curtain" deals that took place. Yes, people sold their voting power either way, now it's just way more public since most voting power is concentrated in bid bots.

What I'm trying to say is that no matter how much you'll try to avoid abuse, fake, bots, etc. If there's money to be made they will find a way.

There's even gold sellers spamming ads on a private WoW server I'm playing on right now and the owners can not figure a way to silence them.

People will want to remain anonymous for a lot of reasons, to exclude all of those just to minimize bot use seems a bit weird to me. There are plenty of verified accounts that do much worse things than anonymous accounts.

Anyway, feel free to discuss. I don't believe I will be trying Voice out so I may be a bit biased to think that they hyped it up way too much for what they delivered. But that's crypto, no surprise there.

Too much hype for what it is. I think once again it shows a blinkered view of mainstream that people in crypto can often have. Sounds non mainstream'y.

I did a little gif, summing up the presentation and the hype prior to it last night :0)

Steemkillah.gif

·

Hahaha @meesterboom, that Gif is accurately & mischievously, guileful. :)

Having a ¿Voice? eh? bah, nah! at the moment their KYC-ed project seems like that other Social Network where The Unexplained Lives. };)

I guess I will wait a bit to invest and get some REAL RUONs instead. You know. Those Social Network Tokens that actually can be purchased from the beginning.

Oh! and I can't wait to see your Gif about their Revolution either. LoL

·
·

Hahaha, nice roundup there!!! Maybe I will do a combined platform animation!!

·
·
·

Cool! I will be eagerly looking forward for that hybrid animation mate. :)

·

nice gif!

LOL

·

hahahahahahaa good one

Hehe, cheers!

The only thing that is confusing is the way they promoted their app... Like why did he had the need to denigrate steem? Not a good way to promote yourself, at least not in my eyes...
Dan is pretty much populist and people will understand it sooner or later. Like, he talks about freedom, financial independence, human rights etc. while at the same time demands KYC. Like why would you exclude someone who does not want to reveal his/her identity? Makes literally no sence

·

Like why did he had the need to denigrate steem?

That's indeed a very good question. I also think it wasnt necessary.

I asked Dan why one with original content can't use his nickname instead of fully disclose his identity

lar1.jpglar2.jpg

dan larimer.. disapointment of the year......

·

lol his second comment is literally telling you to link your identity to your other platforms. :D

Dan Zuckerberg.

·
·

1 year after eos launch, 4kkk dollars in the pocket, kyc without mvp and no voice to nonames)

Trash. I don't wanna dox myself to a central authority for a supposed blockchain product. This makes no fucking sense. It doesn't sound like a blockchain product. It sounds like a completely fake centralized product using a blockchain to make money.

·

Maybe after Dlive they realized people are not ready for blockchain yet.

What I'm trying to say is that no matter how much you'll try to avoid abuse, fake, bots, etc. If there's money to be made they will find a way.

Totally. Remember @onosocial and their verification system? Worthless.

You see a bunch of "verified profiles" spamming and plagiarizing. There was little the system in place could do about it.

I don't like singing competitions at all.

But besides that, the same crypto people will jump in and build a foundation before any normies do. The normies can't even buy into it to get a helping hand. It is a weird set up and there are going to be lots of familiar crossposters no doubt. From the screenshots I have seen, At least it looks like they hire professional UI designers though.

·

You are right, it will be the same Crypto people like folks from here who will join Voice!!

This thing of adoption will really take long to catch up..

There are already many familiar crossposters me inclusive hahaha.

Same people owning, same people posting. So much for unique content.

Typical hype, I agree. And you're right, where there is money to be made, people will find a way to make it. Some more corrupt in their pursuit than others.

This one will certainly not kill Steem. But if it is at all capable of reaching even a tiny minority of mainstream social media users, it may get them thinking about how they're getting screwed by the platforms. That is good for the space. Voice is a very different product from Steem that comparing them would be comparing apples and oranges. First of all, it's just an app.

You sell your Voice influence for fiat outside of the platform. It’s still viable for influential people, just not directly from the platform itself.

So the tokens are untransferable? But not on chain where the deal could be an atomic event through the use of a smart contract? Oh well.

·
·

Right. Sponsorships and product placement through side deals. All off chain.

·

Oh okay, thanks for the info!

One of my surprises is that it came out on beta launch after months of 'Announcement of an Announcement'.

Unlike you however, I will sign up for voice. Steem is home to me but I have learnt to detach my emotions from innovations.

Posted using Partiko Android

·

Yeah I don't have any particular emotions either way, this one didn't seem exciting to me, there's plenty of other coins out there doing a lot more. ^^ Good luck though!

·
·

OK. That's true. The hype created for a project like Voice is funny to me but only time will tell.

There are indeed lots of other projects far better than it.

Posted using Partiko Android

Well I am not mad about it all. I'm disappointed that they haven't released straight away since that "secret" was the whole flag for this conference!

Posted using Partiko Android

·

They even don't have an email for confirmation!!!
So much hype just like ONO did!!!

·
·

But I think ONO it is pretty big and still growing in Asia 👍

Posted using Partiko Android

Overhyped for sure. However I still signed up for the beta and will put a bit of time into Voice just in case it pops off heavy. However I’m firmly planted in the Steem ecosystem.

Too centralized. I'm on the waiting list to test it out, but eh, won't use it much.

Followed

The hype was huge, but the overall design alone disappointed... this red/purplish colours don't catch so much and it doesn't look appealing.

I like the way they try to make it - so that also small channels will have a chance to get seen and so on...

Lets see... honestly I am happy to see that VOICE is not a total killer for Steemit

I'll give it a go, I do have a small stake in EOS and am not blinded to the fact that STEEM is the greatest thing ever. As you say...

You can't buy it, only earn.

This is a new concept, you cant buy in. I wonder what if anything is on offer for new adaptors? There's a lot of hype and there will be some interest in it despite the KYC regulations.

First the Name... Voice... ummm OK I am just going to go ahead and call that lame and totally unoriginal. If that is a sign of the effort that is going into this... I will just leave it at that. Plus with all the hype good lord!!! I wonder how many people sold off some EOS after the announcement? Every other coin was green except EOS this morning when I checked. Hmmm.
This is just my opinion and only time will tell. I did sign up for beta testing and why not dip you toes in a little and test the waters.

There's a crypto social network popping up every day, almost. I will just what I always do - create an account and forget about it. Unless it gets interesting. Which it might, if the marketing money is there and development is user-first.

The hardest part is getting a loyal and engaged user base. Steem already has one, even if retention is crap. We're still here. Bringing a critical mass to Voice would require a user friendly interfaces the masses can operate and a mechanism they can understand. Steem isn't fully there yet, so I am always looking to see how other initiatives tackle the issue of user friendly versus crypto secure.

·

prepare Ur passport then

·
·

What passport? The one I used to verify age on adult performer websites? ;)

·
·
·
·
·
·
·

Oh that one. Sure, I don't mind. It's what it's for. Unlike the other one which is for travel and is, well, real.

Would have been lovely if you'd included a link to the tweet or any other info about voice because as it is, I have absolute zero idea of what voice is. Perhaps when I do, I will come back and make a better comment.

·

Here's a good source of info I guess, as I said I didn't research it that much just based of what I heard: https://www.reddit.com/r/eos/comments/bvrdad/blockone_announced_voice_first_look_images/

·
·

Well, I took a quick peruse of the project and I think it is an interesting one. I even signed up for Beta access. Anything to displace all the centralized apps will always get my upthumb.

·

There is Google still :P

·
·

I was gonna make use of that :) but some will be probably too lazy to check Google

HEhe so true and yep it seems Voice is decentralised facebook. So much Hype finally ended up at nothing.

I don't believe I will be trying Voice

if all big steemians are not gonna join then they have created voice for who? A bigh question mark for Voice i believe

I think it looks great. The crypto space needs like 50-100 blockchain social media dapps with their own ideology and concepts. I believe this is coming in 2020 and beyond.

All the ones that don’t work will die and just be replaced with a better concept.

In my eyes, the more and merrier... at the end if they day... a few dozen will win 😀

Everyone is going to look back 5 years from now and say, “damn, there are so many social media dapps on the blockchain” 😎

I hadn't even heard of this until today. Either I'm a lot more disconnected from new crypto projects than I thought, or, well, no. It's probably just that. Good to know about it now though, I guess?

I don't even think the voice.com is not really worth the lot t of the hype and the anticipation. I believe soon, the token will surely be for sale since it is still in a beta version for now.

Probably the voice have a bright future but I don't see it as a steemit killer. Far from it but time will surely tell

I'm such a hipster I could maybe even give it a go. Hopefully in a way that I can only earn money by being so boring nobody cares.

I'm anonymous on multiple sites and services and I'm happy keeping it that way, but I've also decided to choose to be openly with my own name on other services. I'm just trying to make sure I'm never accidentally revealing the anonymous accounts on my "real name" accounts or the other way around.

I'm happy with some privacy.

Dissapointing for EOS lovers, very good news for STEEM!

I was expecting a bit more after all the hype and build up... I will probably try it out just like I tried out Murmur but I need more details on how it works lol.

Maybe I'll just use it to share my steem posts lol

Nice, if it's one thing the cypherpunks love is more KYC!!!

I agree. It will definitely find it's users and will probably contribute to the success of EOS, but I'm disappointed about what I've seen. Seems they're making the same mistakes they made in Steem.

The KYC for new users is actually a good idea, but it's expensive and yes, people will sell their accounts to bots, so you might as well stop trying.

Overall, it might drive away a few users from Steem, but then again, some Voice users might want to check out alternatives and find Steem. We'll see. It's definitely not "instant death to Steem".

Go Steem! :-)

Posted using Partiko Android

In the end it is all the same. I see no reason not giving voice a chance. Time will tell and since most is hard to join for smartphone users in the end the choice for me will be easy.

Posted using Partiko Android

only concious will set us free, find of do money with destructive or nonsense stuff it's easy and cheaper and not fullfiling so, someday i think people will try more the growth work.

might check out twitter first.

I don’t get it if you can’t buy/sell it, how can it motive ppl to post. More likely for journalists or other kind of media people i guess. Or maybe in the future some might trade accounts with high VOICE?

Interesting commentary @acidyo. Appreciate your contributions here on STEEM. I would be curious to hear @fyrstikken and other large STEEM stakeholders' views on this most recent of EOSIO DAPP rollouts.

My thoughts on the entire identity verification process being imposed upon those wishing to join the new EOSIO VOICETM social media platform can be summed up here by our friend Dr. Lector...

This view is based upon a couple of STEEM posts I have read so far, but I do need to research a bit more before I come to a more informed personal conclusion.

I do admit that I have some EOS in my portfolio, but diversification is my strategy when it comes to investments. I am now, and will forever be, a STEEM stakeholder and STEEM community member.

You got a 56.91% upvote from @ocdb courtesy of @acidyo! :)

@ocdb is a non-profit bidbot for whitelisted Steemians, current max bid is 40 SBD and the equivalent amount in STEEM.
Check our website https://thegoodwhales.io/ for the whitelist, queue and delegation info. Join our Discord channel for more information.

If you like what @ocd does, consider voting for ocd-witness through SteemConnect or on the Steemit Witnesses page. :)

Something I have not very positive impression about this project because of KYC.
I don’t want to disclose all my data to anyone, but even that’s not the case, people only know me by my nickname.

·

Truth be told I am disappointed, this announcement put many of us here on Steemit on so much tension hehehe.

We have been hearing words like Steemit killer bla bla.

I saw some famous Steemians leaving is here all hoping for this Steemit killer.
I am sure all people who left Steemit because of this hyped announcements feel betrayed now .

We all remember the hype ONO brought, most folks began trashing Steemit and even left ...where is ONO now...???

Steemit is and will be King with whatever problems we have, there is no perfect system!!!?

Golos, smdh,....

Kyc public lifefedbook?
No, thanks.

I literally don't care. Seen lots of posts about it but have plenty going on here so it can be their problem. The focus on STEEM needs to be improving STEEM and not on another competitor. It might be good, who knows but a twitter clone isn't a direct rival for the eco-system that we have here.

My thought is why limit to a Dapp when you can have an ecosystem like Steem? I came out more excited after the announcement yesterday as there is little left to bring Steem down (except ourselves).
