Juvenile Night Heron found at the wetlands of the Inn River

3개월 전

When I visited the wetlands of the Inn River in Upper Austria together with Stefan this year in Summer we had the luck to take some pictures of the rare night heron flying above us. We had the luck to find a juvenile Nigh heron that is not that shy and it flew directly above us, so we were able to take some pretty nice pictures of it. Night herons stand still at the water's edge, and wait to ambush prey, mainly at night. They primarily eat small fish, crustaceans, frogs, aquatic insects, and small mammals. During the day, they rest in trees or bushes so it is often pretty difficult to take some pictures of them.

I already had the luck to take some pictures of these 2 herons on 2 different spots during the day. Althought the Night herons fly most of the time only at night for their hunting you can find them in the early morning or in the evening. Then you need to act fast and take some pictures of them.
