1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider

3개월 전

It's been a long time that I didn't post about car. But the last post of @zacknorman97 about automotive design done by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera in 60's and 70's (his post : New Set Of Wings | Coachbuilt Maserati-Touring Sciàdipersia), I looked for the auctions and current sales of my favorite cars. And I found this pure beauty 1971 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider on sale through Auxietre & Schmidt, classic and modern sports cars dealers based in Versailles (France) and Munich (Germany).

The Ferrari 365 Daytona was presented at the Paris Auto Salon in 1968 and was produced from 1968 to 1973. This model was named after the Ferrari's victory at the Daytona 24 Hours in the US in 1967 with the Ferrari 330 P4 prototype driven by Lorenzo Bandini and Chris Amon.

The car replaced the 275 GTB/4 in the segment of V12 GT (Grand Tourer) with a new style, more angular, its nose with Plexiglas and its Kamm tail (designed by the German aerodynamicist Wunibald Kamm in order to reduce the drag of the vehicule). Initially the car was only offered as a Berlinetta (GTB/4), but the demand was huge for an open-top spider (GTS/4). Out of the 1,406 Daytonas produced between 1968 and 1973, only 121 were spiders.

Just to see the difference between the Berlinetta and the Spider :

Which do you prefer? Surprisingly, I like the Berlinetta :-)

The Spider was designed by Leonardo Fioravanti working at Pininfarina.

Breathtakingly beautiful from any angle, the following simplicity of the enormous hood, the impossible rake of the windshield, the surprise angle of the cut-off rear – It all worked together as a coordinate wholeHenry Rasmussen, automotive journalist from his book Ferraris for the Road

Thanks for sharing, am I super happy to see you posting about cars again 😁! I too, personally prefer the Berlinetta variant, since I'm not much of a roof-down person, anyways. But still, both cars are still too pretty to ignore, and I love them so. The best of all, is that interior, and how simple and elegant it is. The tan leather, and that gauge cluster. I love these old Ferrari interiors. Hope to see more car stuff from you, mate!

Yep Berlinetta looks better and in Canada, you can use the spider two / three months a year. And the interior is beautiful with these seats.
Thanks for the resteem, it's really appreciated (your followers have very high upvotes, it's great)... It makes me want to write other posts about cars 😀.

Cheers, and I can definitely see an issue with using the Spider in the winter. I guess it's not so much of a problem in Italy, coasting around the Amalfi Coast, eh? You can always try posting in a Community, like OCD, or GEMS. There's a lot of people there that want to see great stuff, especially some of these beauties!

Thanks for the tip... I'll look to these communities.

Thanks for this post! An epic car for sure. Little known fact is also that this 365gtb daytona is the last car to be designed, constructed and built under Enzo Ferrari's direction personally.

I still have a work in progress 3d model of this very car in the works but I need to finish my E31 BMW first which is much further in development for Assetto Corsa.

Enzo definitely was a major player (The major ?) in automotive history with Ferrari but also its various rivalries (Lamborghini, Ford ...).
Impressive work with your 3d model... I'll follow you to see it.
