What Have You Learned From Older People?

Our Elders can pass much wisdom on to younger people. Let us know what some of that wisdom was. Of course some old people are also a little out there and share interesting (non wisdom) stories so let's here those too.

In case you don't know who I am here is my intro post from way back:

@robhimmself1 ...being workaholic is not a bad thing.. if we enjoy it.

Sebaiknya, semakin bertambah umur kita, semakin kita dekat dengan orangtua kita.

I've spent a lot of time with elderly both via family and through some of my previous employers.

The thing that I have learned over the years from the elderly people that I spent time with is that there really is only one thing that is important in life - the time we spend with our family and loved ones. These elderly people craved the company of the people they love in their final years. It's what kept them going and the smiles I saw on their faces when loved ones visited was one of the most warming things I have ever seen.

I got caught up chasing the almighty dollar for many years and only truly understood how important family and loved ones are when I saw 5 family members and close friends die over a period of 2 years.

Now I am all too aware of how important it is to be with family and friends as much as possible. Life is too short to go chasing something as silly as a few nice items or that next big pay check. Possessions are never as important as the people you love.

I have come to ask your parents for help in the eradication of summer flu in Humbleton. The garbage cans are full of Kleenex wipes. The doctors have run out of cough drops. I do not know what to do

yesssssssssss!!!!! when do i get shortlisted for this ?

A wise older man once told me "Growing old is boring son, so don't"

I have learnt things in form of Parables "The only music a tortoise dance to, is that of a boiling water" which mean a Child should always take precaution in handling or dealing with issues. If that person goes otherwise, it might be too late to correct such mistakes.

"What an old man sees while sitting, a young man cannot see it, if he climbs a tall iroko tree" meaning people should always listen to those with experience when they are being given advice, from through experience one can shape his/her life in the right direction learning from other people's mistake.

They say wisdom is ubiquitous but people still go searching for it. The reply here is so touching, where do you get these thoughts and ideas from?awesome.jpg

Thank you. Got it from the men who have toiled the soil and travel the earth decades before I was born.

·

@yungcheif , speaking the truth... what an experience man can see , a young cannot!!!
With experience a wise man become more humble. Like a tree 🌳 with fruits 🍎, always bow down!!!
Cheers man for gracious word.

I am 18 years old and my mom (@jaklassen) taught me very much about life and faith. She also taught me how to cook :).

The things that I have learned from my grandmother who told me all the time and now I tell my children: Do not worry too much. I get stressed by everything that I should not have allowed. Being grateful with what you have During my childhood I was angry about the things I did not have, I reproached my mother very much. Try to be a better version of yourself every day. Every day there are opportunities to learn something new, apologize for our mistakes and be better. Leave your ego. It's something I need to work on, since having an ego has not done anything good for me. Follow your passion We only have one life. If you are not following what you love then what are you doing? Why live a life that does not inspire you? Your childhood It matters, but do not let it control your adult life. Do not let the things that happened to you as a child control the rest of your life. Use them to your advantage, learn from them. Follow your dreams. It is never too late or too early to follow your dreams. Stay true to your words. Do not say something unless you're going to comply. Learn to say "no" more often if you are not able to do it. Learn from your relationships. Learn from the good and the bad, but stay authentic. Do not let someone turn you into something you do not want to be.

knowledge, respect, be the example, illusion for what you do

I learnt from older that everything has a value and nothing is valueless

Hi @bunnypuncher..how to take part where is link..pls send link

My grandfather taught me to live a healthy life, at the age of 95 he wakes up early in the morning walks for half an hour and makes his own breakfast with healthy fruits and organic food. This shows that if you're willing the lifestyle adopted can take you a long way.

Do not like to grumble at parents. Mama is fussy and it definitely makes you annoyed. For sure you love you and want to remind you of the good.

Yet to find my luck.

Sederhana saja keinginanku, melihat kedua orang tuaku sehat selalu.

Be a good wife, Naina. Abah's responsibility is over. Abah can only pray for the best for you and your new family

that the bad moments happen and that the good ones always arrive.

I learned from them to be discipline and honest person, however poor we are we never tried to get things of others.

In every prayer I did not forget I gave a prayer to my parents.

Not only wisdom, but values that are hard to find on today's society.

LEARNING 1. Illusion for what you do.
LEARNING 2. Respect.
LEARNING 3. Listen to the one in front of you.
LEARNING 4. Be an example
LEARNING 5. Knowledge.

@bunnypuncher you are really doing a very great work. It really helps the new people on the steemit platform and appreciate them to do well and grow and become successful like you. I appreciate your work sir. And also participating in the giveaways from now. Thanks sir.

Learnt from old ages, mostly helping nature, family bounding, physical social activity. happily enjoy lyf.

Do you drink a lot of Snapple? Because you look like you're made from the best stuff on Earth.

bunny friend we can learnt from older this is not surely but we can learn every day some thing different from some people

Grandmother taught some home remedies.

the whole analogy of stop and smell the roses

There is always light at the end of the tunnel.

"Say YES more... Because one day when you are old, you will wish you did more not less!"

i upvote this post, plz same for me

To be thankful for each and every day.

I can learn good decision making process from older people.

From them you learn what you want to know. In them there is wisdom and experience ready to be shared with each one of us, you just need to know how to listen to them and want to learn from them.

When people reach my age, they start to take themselves and the world around them and their lives a little too serious.

My father and other people who were twice to thrice my age showed me how that is actually quite pointless. They just loved to live, lived to laugh and had a great time overall to the best of their ability.

Why so serious?

I learned from older people respec, love & dignity of work.

Drunk people are stupid lol

All of this has happened before, and it will all happen again.

Focusing on my hea> ling process from an infection I do not know how I got it

I have many things learned from older people,Such as if you are at the peak of your emotions never make a big decision that can change your life,To avoid regret at the end.

Another is that respect your parents, they are the most important person in your life.Follow what they says and love them until the end of time.
We should have respect each other...we should obey someone ..Respect all people despite of their status in life and consider and treat them as your brothers and sisters.
Respect be gets respect.
Share your blessings with others.

Extend help to all who needs help..Respect all people despite of their status in life and consider and treat them as your brothers and sisters.

Extend help to all who needs help.
And lastly,
Bear the spirit of gratitude.Be thankful always in everything that you receive it may small or big, grateful person is a happy person.

I have learnt from their teachings that their own mistakes should bemy own examples, so that where they got it wrong I thrive in that aspect

I have learnt proper time management from my grand father. He told me to give proper time to every task yoy want to do. Set a time limit and finish within set limit.

I've learned a lot from elders but the most important thing that I learned is never be too lazy to try new things, cause we'll never know what life throws at us which may hinder us from trying out new things :)

My mother-in-law told me over 30 years ago that inside she always feels 18 years old. I am now the age she was then and I wish she was still here so I could tell her she was right!

I have learnt how to success in life and i also learnt respect and lot of things from them.

Think in solutions, not in problems

@bunnypuncher Learn work honestly and be punctual.

Learnt how not to make the some mistakes.
Learnt responsibility.
Much of quality values.

Value your time

our seniors are a school of life full of lived experiences that share their experiences with love and wisdom

Always be grateful

The older people than this generation are much decent and honest i think. So the main thing i learned from them behavior and honesty.

What I have learned from my elders, or wisdom that they taught me is that on everyday struggle that we met in life, we should not disregard them as an obstacle in life. They are in fact, blessings in disguise to shape up our own image, our own personality to nurture us for a brighter future.

Another thing I learned from my elders is that, we should be thankful everyday to God for every new day He has given us for another life to live. We should live life to the fullest and consider each day as if it's our last. We should not waste our lives for hate, grudge, and bitterness to others, coz our life is too short to waste on those such negativities.

My elders taught me also that each person we have met in life has certain purpose why we met them. They can be instruments for our personality development, they can be helpful along the way, or they can be a part of something we have for our own awakening.

But most of all my elders taught me that we should respect them too, as well as to our parents. We should love them with all of our hearts, coz we only get one-time parents. Respect them, so that once our time to become as parents too, our children will pay respect for us too. It's human nature that the good begets goodness and the bad begets worse.

These were all the wisdom that my elders have taught me as one of their legacies that made me of what I am now. So I do hope your elders taught you the way mine do. Or if you have any, share to us yours too.

That's all for elders' gift of wisdom for me. What's yours? Tell us your story. :)

That experience doesn't mean knowledge.

Listen to sound advice

I learnt the value of time from my grandma and the most important thing is not to postpone any work. I too personally experienced the risks of postponing works.
I believe in old people as they have a lot of experience in their lives.

Kata Kata untuk Orang Tua Tersayang Terbaik

Words for the Best Parents Best

Everyone should enjoy their lives at its best. Once we get old, we cant do anything what we want.

I learnt the value of people which is lost nowadays

We have to give the best to mom and dad. happy him while they are still alive. Although currently can not be happy parents. We just make them smile by saying a beautiful word for them to ride. Do not let us regret it because it can not make them happy.

Ya Allah, jagalah kedua orang tuaku seperti mereka menjagaku sewaktu aku kecil.

O God, keep my parents as they looked after me as a child.

Sebaik-baiknya motivas adalah doa orang tua.

The best motivation is the prayer of parents.

Jika kita tak pernah berdoa untuk orang tua. Maka bayangkan saat diri kita menjadi tua

If we never pray for parents. Then imagine when we grow old.

I learned expertise from them

Always give everything for everything

Congratulations to the winners. I learned that "Actions speak louder than words"

Thank you both still remain next to me when everyone leaves me.

Terimakasih kalian berdua masih tetap disampingku ketika semua orang meninggalkanku.

Dear God, please give me a father and a longevity mother, so they can see me succeed in the future. Amen.

Amin.

There is something unique and tangible about old people and that is experience. In life they've seen a lot of things and therefore anything they says count. What i have learnt from old people is that trust no one even your best friend. Trust in God not man, atleast thats what I have learnt from them.

Lord, make my Mother and Father healthy, make it a success and make me a happy child.

silence is a great source of strength

A dollar is the easiest thing to make!

A old man once told me there is no reward without risk. This also applies to the crypto world!

Last year, I met a diplomat who was about to retire from his ambassadorial position at his country’s embassy. While discussing our future goals, he told me that when he goes back to his country he wants to pursue a doctorate study. This man had as much success as he could possibly imagine in his life, but instead of lying back and calling it a day, he was looking forward to new ways to advance himself. Then I know that I need to find my purpose in my life...

I consider myself a storyteller. This is something I learned from my great-grandmother who is now deceased. She told her stories in the tradition of a griot. And because she could barely read or write, much of what she knew was conveyed orally. Her voice was powerful, however, it was not in the timber of her voice, or in the way she shook and gesticulated while she told her stories that gripped me, it was the way in which she so seamlessly moved from one form of storytelling to the other.

For example, at one point (while telling her story), she would be reciting poetry, then she would segue into prose, and in between all of that was the singing she would infuse in her narrations.

And while she could never put a word to paper, what I learned from her is that, in conveying ones thoughts, it is important to engage the audience. To build a world, and weave it in a way that is captivating.

She did not have readers, she had listeners. But despite that she made me know that even if you are teling a story to a million people, you should make each one of that million feel as if he/she is the only one you are narrating your piece to.

Simply my wish, seeing my parents are always healthy.

Trust is earned

be responsible all the time! :)

Save some money for your future.

I have learned not to take everything as a game, to mature with time, to be humble and respectful thanks to the elderly people of my family especially

Sometimes in grief, the father prefers to stay. Because he was not able to cry.

Orang tua menunda merasakan nikmat hari ini untuk melihat anaknya merasakan nikmat dimasa depan.

Parents postpone enjoying the favors of today to see their children feel the favors of the future.

Patience is a virtue. It is not always wise to rush into things, make sure you know what you want to before you go into it.

The virtue of a father is higher than the mountain and the kindness of a mother is deeper than the sea.

INVESTMENT IS THE WAY TO FINANCIAL SECURITY

@bunnypuncher

Hoping I will win. Lets see

Older people often say to focus and finished my study because only Education is what they could give me and it is the best weapon in attaining my goals in life. And knowledge is power!

Thing I have learned is to be patient and carry on doing the job, success will come.

Respect Seniors and love juniors

Always try to maintain a ballance in everything, you have the right to give not to receive, and all will be well in the end.

What I have learned from old people is that they are the most experienced people in the world yet they act so cool about it. They are always sitting quietly on their chair just observing you. They have seen a lot in this life so much experience, if only we could relate with them better one won't fall into mistakes as these old ones have fallen into several mistakes during their life time and have "obviously" learned from each of them. The old ones can really help the young ones in life with their life experience.

Bunny puncher you really nice work.some great person have in world.

@bunnypuncher Hey friend please support me to join your community.

I've learnt so much about Manners and respect from older people.

Continue listening to the older people to become more wise of them!

Its a weird question because, what have we not learned from older people? Most of our knowledge comes from those that came before us.

I want to succeed here

In my country there is a slogan that says "If you want to get old take advice", I have a lot to learn from older people that they have had life experience, in my case I learned to have nothing to ruin my happiness since that depends only on me.

My dad used to say, "Getting old is for the birds."

Learnt so many things :

  • Be grateful
  • Control the anger and direct it to right direction
  • Stay positive and active
  • Don't loose faith
  • Work hard

wisdom does not always correlate with age

Work hard, be honest and fair to everyone, take care of your family.

What I've learned from the Elders is that they thought me 1 thing. That is to follow what you're feeling inside. The thing that keeps telling you to do it, to grab the opportunity while you can do it, because as the time flies by... You may not be able to do it anymore.

Same as love, after break-ups. Maybe it's just a misunderstanding that's why you both decided to end-up your relationship. But in reality, both of you are the ones whos hurting each other. Then you'll miss her, maybe she misses you too. If you still have feelings for her. Why not tell it to her now? Don't wait for the moment that you'll end up regretting what you've did. You might end up watching her, with another man instead.

I learnt that people's fortune blooms at different time. Therefore one must hold to his dreams and goals while waiting for the time to come.

Principles and values

Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.

@bunnypuncher love your thoughts for this article ,honesty do exit you have to find it rightly said , am i right ?

I learned a lot of things from their experience , culture , tradition , history , family buisness.

First thing I understood is, they spent most of the time with family, friends and relatives instead of mobiles, sharing they knowledge and experiences with each others. To be frank these days most of present generation won't learn or listen to elder what they says. Sometimes even if they listen and anything goes wrong! Then it is done! Blame them for life time.

My grandmother was an uneducated farmer, but so wise. I learned a lot from her.

Learn to listen

He who listens to advice from older people is doing better in his life.

In my opinion, older people have so far learned very good advice, which in my 33 years have been implemented in my daily life, and some of those tips have been: Have passion for any situation that comes our way. learn from my mistakes and from others. Be honest, and many more things. Although one of the things that have always reflected the older people around me, has been true love and forgiveness. Strange my grandmother who is already in heaven, and always told me (Son in life not everything is easy, but with dedication and perceverancia and much faith in Christ, everything will be successful).

@bunnypuncher bro how you got such success on steemit platform. Do share your experience and some of your valuable suggestions.

Hmmm wisdom from old people... Hmmm... 🤔 Haven't been around any seniors lately. Online though there's this old guy on Facebook sharing financial tips because apparently it's never too early to learn abt straightening our finances.

It's very important. I would have wanted to learn abt it when I was younger but it's ok I am learning more abt it since two years ago.

Our parents teach a value that distinguishes two types of children, who are obedient without reserve, whose peasants nderek (death and death), are called "good boys", while those who try rationally, choose their authority, even if it is in line with " justice "is called" bad boy ".

ika sampai produk Anda disukai orangtua tapi dibenci anak muda, maka tak lama lagi akan habis.

If your product is favored by a parent but hated by a young child, it will soon be exhausted.

Perceraian orangtua nggak berarti kiamat.

Mereka belum kuat menerima tuntutan kita.

Parents' ambitions, do not get mixed up with the innocence of the boys. They have not been strong enough to accept our demands.

Ok, giving it a shot again.

I know, can not be equated between parental leave to leave forever, by facing the separation of parents. but, for a child, it is equally painful.

Ketika akhirnya aku menjadi orangtua, kadang ada kekangenan masa kanak-kanak dulu. Masa ketika aku merasa terlindungi.

When I finally became a parent, sometimes there is a childhood kekangenan first. The time I felt protected. There is a problem, no matter how heavy it is, I can always go home and find Ibuk ...

When we were teenagers, Paul Allen taught me a lot about computer hardware, and encouraged me to believe - and risked luck on - the micro processor. I was lucky, at a young age, to find something that I loved and fascinated me - and still fascinates me. And I am fortunate to have parents who motivate and encourage me.

Menghadapi perceraian orangtua memang bukan hal mudah.

Why is this world so full of rotten human ribs? Just because you want to live more prosperous than others? Is the welfare of life the same as rottenness for others? What a meaningless parental education if so. What a meaningless religious education. What a waste of teachers and schools.

Mereka tak lupa selalu ingatkan kita, sekolah memang gratis. Tapi orangtua murid harus siapkan buku, baju, sepatu, uang saku buat anak-anak kita. Kita sudah miskin, apa mau makin miskin.

They do not forget to always remind us, the school is free. But parents must prepare books, clothes, shoes, pocket money for our children. We're poor, what's going to get poorer.

Hie bunnypuncher!
We can learn many things from older people:
1 To live a long life, you have to eat healthy.
2.Value & respect people.

  1. Plan ahead for future e.g Saving money
    4.Listen to others.

Parents will not advocate the wrong path for their children. We are just trying to guide you to move for a good future.

Every child has the right to seek and be able to love one another. Not because they are after the old twilight of their parents.

I've received lots of professional insights and ideas for inquiry from my elders.

Anak bukanlah mahluk bodoh. Mereka punya perasaan ingin dihargai.

The child is not a fool. They have a feeling of wanting to be respected. Sometimes, when their desires are not met, they will be angry. While parents have different perceptions.

Makin' random comments and history was a big thing with the elderly I met.

I learned to never give up, no matter what happens. When you have a goal and keep trying, someday you might reach it. Patience and hard work can pay off.

Be a good wife, Naina. Abah's responsibility is over. Abah can only pray for the best for you and your new family. May blessings be with your marriage and always bestowed good for both of you. Make Abah proud, respect your husband as you respect your parents. Respect your husband's parents because they are your parents too. We will always love you.

I learned a lot about how to take care of my children.

To respect privacy, and show good manners.

Life has a lot of challenges

My father always say in the Igbo native tongue-"Onye Bara onwe ya uru, orie onwe ya uru"
It means if you live an upright life, just and acceptable before all,you will definitely reap the fruits of your labor.
I've held unto those words ever since

I believe this is a true:" In his youth Mr. Romero spent his health, looking for a lot of money. Already in his old age he spent his money trying to recover his health. And already without money and without health there goes Romero in a coffin."

Great idea.keep it up.

Be good and do good. Always make sure you are happy in whatever you do. If you are not happy, don't do it.

Working with older folks, you learn a whole lot. Most say slow down and enjoy life before it’s too late.

Old people teaches us many things. we should follow their ideas. those ideas or stories they tell can be very useful in our life.

A lot, my grandmother raised me until 16 years old. I have to thanks to her almost everything I accomplish for my entire life.

I have learned to use my time wisely, it is not worth wasting it on banalities.

That people were more emphatic during their days.

That I should enjoy life, family and friends and not just focus on job.

Mostly cooking recipes, baking recipes, some tips on how to correct my children, and how to take advantage of my time and employ it right!

One of the main things that I have been taught throughout my life is that what is sown is reaped, how you have acted in your life with your loved ones, love, patience, tolerance, is what you will end up receiving. . When I see an elderly person helpless, I usually wonder how he would have behaved with his family to be in that state? There are many essential things for life that I have learned from them, but this seems to me of the utmost importance and contains almost everything. regards

age is just a number...wisdom comes at any time , some are predisposed to it, some take their time, in the end wisdom is getting old gracefully ... :)

great post but i didnt giveway yet

Yes i I have learned lot from my elders.

I respect my elders very much.
If they donate something to me, I listen to them.
Never speak in a loud voice in front of them
I love my elders.

Time passes anyway!

To work for your life, not to life for the work. :-)

to live a life worthy of Gods Grace.

The most important thing I learned from them was the true Virtue of being Patient. Success can't be achieved in an instant, you need to work hard for it. If you failed don't give up yet because the right time will come for you to taste the Sweetest Fruit of Success!

I've learn from people older than me that you have to walk on other people's shoes to understand why they make a decision that you don't share with them.

Some of the answers are incredibly thoughtful. I learnt to love M.A.S.H from my grandfather and to value the small things in life.

@bunnypuncher brother I learned Humility,The Value of Giving: I remember watching as a little boy picked up a quarter someone had dropped on the sidewalk. I could see the wonder in his eyes as he imagined all the things he could buy with his quarter....The Power of Patience........

That things will get worse in the long run but everything will be okay :)

A loot of things from older people, but what does older means in this context? cause it could be from 1 day older up to decades older...

From eldery people i've learnt that you should give a shit about what people thinks of you.

It's my first time to join your very nice contest.
I have learnt a lot old from old people experienced. Experienced is the best teacher. They taught me to to sow good things while I'm young so that I will reap good things when I get old.
They taught me good manners, and wisdom.

i personally learned from older people like my grandfather...i learned from my grandfather is his calmness & love and always in side with he loves most.... especially for me:)

How old is old?

a short story ...
One day, while I was looking for a job, I sat on a pew bench and lit a cigarette.
A gentleman passed by, he asked me to smoke too, and soon we started a conversation.
In the middle of this conversation he asked me what I was doing there on a Wednesday afternoon and I told him I needed a lot of work and he then questioned the importance of the money for me.
Naive I said that to me to have money was synonymous of happiness, of acquisition of things and trips. Have cars and get to know other places in the world.
He then told me that I was wrong to think that way. He said that money only makes happy who knows how to make other people happy with it. He said that a beetle would take me to the same place as a ferrari, that the water of the coastal beach of my state is as salty as the most disrupted beach in the world, and that while I was looking for a way to accumulate more and more money to find this false happiness I would be leaving behind great moments that would make me so happy.
Anyway ... I learned that we can not waste time looking for a build up that will not make us go back in time to enjoy those moments that we lost in our search ...

@bunnypuncher Being patient in life and do not expect anything over the top that is also applicable to steemit you have to be patient and make quality content to survive in this platform.

I have learnt that i should be patient in life. Those who truly enjoy success are the patient ones.

That getting old sucks.

To be good no matter who.

You very generous! Great initiative!

I learned a lot, my grandmother used to tutor me lol

The first examples and teachings that I have received in my life from older people come from my family, which instilled values and good habits, I had an excellent education that I was given today at 24 years of age, to be a good person, honest and respectful. As for what concerns the learning of any older person in my non-family environment, I have been taught to love and appreciate people who are always aware of you; I have been taught to value love, wherever I come from, I know older people who have been married for more than 30, 40 or 50 years and that apart from filling me with pride, serves as an example for me, that I believe in fidelity and in that ability to appreciate and value the good.

We are drowning in an infinite digital world of facebook, google, youtube and co. I admire the elder generation that just sits in a tram for 30 minutes and just thinks, contemplates, reflects, enjoys, resits the boredom that our generation cannot stand a second. We are craving for
entertainment, the second we end a conversation or task we take the phone to rescue ourselves from the approaching nothing of tediousness. Our messengers need our constant attention. Instead of having a meaningful conversations we rather type write and wait hours for people to respond. But that does not matter because we are talking to dozens of people at once. But non of those conversations mean anything. Everything happens on the surface, nothing goes deep any
more. Frivolity predominates our everyday life. We walk like zombies from one meaningless event to the other. On top of that, we let technology decide for us.

Most regret working too much during their life.

I m 20 year old and a medical studen,
my parents tell me if you want to success in any field you should be work hard with honesty and never think to more, just go and go slowly slowly but never stop anywhere,
If you have done this nobody can be stop you to success

I have learned from older people that life, despite being hard, is a journey that we should enjoy while it happens, because we only have an opportunity in it, so we must accept and overcome every challenge that comes our way. I have also learned that we also learn from defeats and that we should just get up and move on. From the elders I learned to be a better person ...

A great effort by you bro @bunnypuncher. Everyone Earn for themselves it really need a great heart to giveaway money from which you earn.

I learnt that old people had less tension than us. Because of the technology, our life become more complicated rather than become easier. Old people had enjoyed their life with even a less money and with good healthy life.

how to cook xD
