I was at my little girl's school and I saw this melon plant, so I decided to tell her everything about the melon crop, rich and refreshing fruit, very convenient to consume in the summer.
The melon is a close relative of pumpkin and cucumber, as well as watermelon, it has a hot climate, that is why it is recommended to plant it in this season, it requires a soil that is very rich in nutrients, which may be slightly acidic. , humid, but that has absolutely no water stagnation. The melon is a plant rich in potassium (potassium is used to increase the amount of sugar) and, therefore, the soil must be enriched with compost or ash.
It can be planted in seedbeds, pots or directly on a plot of land, it can be sown between March and April. The melon is sown to a maximum of one plant per square meter, a distance of one meter between the plants is recommended, arranged in rows of 100 to 150 cm away. The fruit should be kept isolated from the ground, to prevent it from rotting or being attacked by parasites, so it is better to place it on a wooden board.
The melon crop takes about 120 to 160 days between planting and harvesting. The fruit of the melon when it is ripe is detached by itself, or with just a small turn of the fruit it is easily detached. The color of the skin is useful to understand if the melon is ready for harvest. The melon sugars are concentrated in the last week of growth, so be careful to harvest them ripe, otherwise you will not taste. Also the lack of potassium in the soil causes melons without flavor. The advice is to wait a few hours to eat it, at least one day. A melon kept in the fridge is kept for 10 days.
