Ulog #223: Fried Wantons

About 2 weeks ago my wife and mum decided to make fried wantons for lunch. They were inspired by some people they were following on social media and had seen them making wantons with varieties and shapes. Since we're Chinese, it was compulsory to act on it right away and that's how I got fried wantons for lunch :D Yummy ~~~


This wantons were made with pork and shrimp filling that was minced fine and seasoned with sesame oil, some soy sauce, salt and white pepper. Super simple mixture.

We then rolled them up however shape we wanted. Some were in hats, some we just pinched at the top and some crimped at the edges to make a moon like shape.

It was then fried in some palm oil which has a high smoking point so it can get really hot without burning. Deep fried for about 2 minutes or until golden brown and you have a perfectly crisped wanton skin and juicy meat filling on the inside.

Very simple dish and I encourage you to try it out. If you want to me more ambitious, you can make your own wanton skins which I myself don't. Store bought ones are good enough and hassle free.

If you don't want to fry them, drop them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes and they're done. Have a soy and chili dip and you have youself a healthy snack :D
