I already enjoy the flavor of coconut shreds on cookies and chocolate-covered coconut shreds! I didn’t even know there were any health benefits until I looked them up! Here are some of the coolest facts on coconuts, coconut water, and coconut oil.

You could be thinking, what is coconut meat!? Coconut meat is the white insides of the coconut, beyond the brown hairy outside of the coconut. Some people also call it the flesh.

Coconut meat is amazing for the digestive system! Most of the fiber in the meat is insoluble, which means it will not be digested. But instead, it helps your digestive system by bulking up your stool and helping your body absorb a lot of nutrients from other foods. It also helps with smooth bowel movements. Lastly, fiber makes you full, so coconut can be contributing to your fullness.

Coconut water is the water from an immature coconut, basically the water is the white meat before it solidifies.

Coconut water is extremely healthy for you especially if you drink coconut water fresh from the fruit. It is rich in antioxidants and potassium. It also helps break down foods in the stomach. Coconut water can even detoxify and clean out your body. In fact, it actually helps the body get better at cleaning itself out.

The answer is yes and no-in my opinion. Most sites say while coconuts, coconut oil especially, raises LDL (bad cholesterol) it also raises HDL (good cholesterol.) I personally think in the long run, I think it will do no harm as long as you eat coconut oil and coconut in moderation.

Q: are coconuts full of fat!?
Yes they are! But that doesn’t mean it’s bad for you! This has a lot to do with the fact that the saturated fats found in coconuts creates cholesterol. But coconut isn’t bad for you as long as you eat it in moderation!
