Some would ask this question - can't I choose my own pathway through life? The answer is both yes and no. Yes in the sense that God will not stop you from following your desires or reasoning if you want to; however logic demands that you cannot expect His active blessing if He had another plan in mind for your life.
We should consider the 'No' answer to this question. According to scripture we do not belong to ourselves because we were bought with a price. Therefore we do not have the right to do what we want to do but rather must defer to the desires of our 'owner'.
For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body c and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:20
God has the right to demand our obedience if He wants. However He values the relationship He has with us and is more interested in that relationship than in the works we might or might not do. For this reason He allows us to find our own way. The greatest fulfilment and delight awaits us as we find and follow the course He has planned for our lives.
Because the church is designed as a body it is very important for each part to take it's proper place. The whole body suffers to some degree when an individual part is not functioning as God intended it to function. It is therefore very important in the overall picture that each one of us takes up our intended role. It might not seem important in the grand scheme of thing, but we are a body, and no body can function to its full potential unless it has every organ and part working to its full capacity.
The importance is attached to doing that which God requires of you. The reward you will receive will be related to your obedience not to your achievement.
Each one of us wants to be fulfilled in life. Each of us wants to feel that we are greatly blessed of God. We will have the greatest fulfilment and the greatest sense of God's continuing presence with us when we walk in that particular pathway that God designed for us
