Independence day / Día de la independencia #tbt

In three days, that is, on April 19, it will be 210 years since the declaration of independence in Venezuela, which was the first step towards that heroic feat.

The Plaza Bolivar in Caracas (the main square in the city), which at that time was called Plaza Mayor, was the epicenter of that social and political movement. For that reason, personally, that place has always produced great emotion in me, because every time I go there I feel the energy of all those things that happened there and I can almost feel the protagonists of all those great stories.

In 2011 my group, Los Cañoneros, had the honor of playing precisely in that Plaza, while the protocol acts were being held at the Caracas Municipal Palace. Although on many occasions we performed in that space, this performance was something special because of the date we were celebrating.

The atmosphere had decorative elements of the time of the colony and some ladies dressed in the custom, were the hosts of the event. For that reason we took some pictures in sepia color, to be more in tune with the spirit of the celebration.

These images of #tbt today bring back many memories, because on that occasion there was still playing with us Benjamín Brea, who was a real good friend and the saxophonist of the group for more than 20 years and the next 23rd will be 6 years since he left. One of the guests of honor at the protocol acts was my father, Humberto Orsini, who always accompanied us in our performances whenever he could, just as he did that day and who also left us in 2017.
