The Bitter Gourd challenge : Stuffed Bitter Gourd

Bitter gourd is always a challenge for me due to its bitter taste, I love its bitter taste but kids don't like the taste. This time when I bought the bitter gourd they challenged me that if it would be a tasty dish then only they will eat and I challenged that I will make it so delicious that you will enjoy it for sure!

I decided to make Stuff Bitter Gourd which involves various spices and gram flour.

Ingredients used

  • Bitter gourd 1/2 kg
  • Gram flour 1/2 cup
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Spices for stuffing (turmeric powder, coriander powder, dry mango powder, red chilli powder, asafoetida, salt, sugar, garam masala)
  • Sesame seeds 2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds, mustard seeds 1/2 tsp each
  • Green chilli 2 nos (fine chopped)

Procedure

Stuffing

  • Mix gram flour and all spices, add oil. Make a uniform mixture. Stuffing is ready.

  • Wash thoroughly 2 times in running water.

  • Make a big cut in the centre vertically in all bitter gourd.

  • Remove seeds

  • Fill the stuffing

Cooking Bitter gourd

  • Heat 3 tbsp oil in a heavy bottom pan
  • Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds
  • Shallow fry stuffed bitter gourd and cover. Cook for 15-20 minutes.
  • Check in between and add water if required.
  • Sprinkle salt over the bitter gourd.

Delicious Bitter Gourd is ready to serve. Serve it with choice of your bread or steamed rice


It is a really bitter but delicious recipe which is also liked by my kids.
