I don’t seem to quite be able to get my mind to focus this evening, so this post will undoubtedly end up as a bit of a mish-mash of thoughts and impressions.
It occurred to me earlier that I have now been part of Steemit for 4 ½ years, and that makes this community among the longest lived platforms I have been on that share the distinction of rewarding their content creators for blogging.
Typically, this kind of venue dies out pretty rapidly… and it’s somewhat ironic that I even aired my skepticism of Steemit’s longevity in my opening ”Introduce Yourself” post here.
This has turned out to be one of those rare cases where I am actually pretty happy that I was wrong!
As is true of many similar sites, what now seems to be carrying Steemit forward is the continuing growth of its individual communities. People tend to flock together around particular interests or other common ground… and that’s also one of the things that really helps make a web community ”sticky.” You get to know a circle of people you enjoy sharing with, so you stick around.
I’m not suggesting that this ”stickiness” actually replaces people’s interest in getting rewarded, but it certainly augments it and makes people more likely to stick around because they are actually enjoying themselves.
Meanwhile, I am happy to have become somewhat affiliated with the World of Xpilar Community which seems to be one of Steemit’s largest and most active. I didn’t realize until long after I joined this community that community founder @xpilar is a fellow Scandinavian… from Norway. It’s just an interesting coincidence as there aren’t a whole lot of Scandinavians on Steemit.
I now even have been given a ”WOX Dolphin Club” badge, which is pretty cool.
That also got me to thinking that I am actually a Steemit ”Dolphin” for the third time, now. I was one previously in the late summer of 2017 but powered down so we could buy a new set of tires for our truck; I was one again in 2018, but ad to power down as we were scrambling to be able to afford to pay the property taxes on our home. And now, of course, I am a Dolphin for the third time, which is kind of cool.
Hopefully, this time I will be able to afford to just keep building and eventually reach 10,000SP. It seems unlikely to happen in 2021, but it seems like a worthy goal.
Anyway, that’s my random Saturday ramble… thanks for reading, and I hope you’re enjoying a great weekend!
