4년 전

Ginkgo Biloba commonly known as ginkgo tree or a maidenhair tree. It has various uses in traditional medicine and as a source of food. Most nurseries sell only male ginkgo trees. The female produces fruit that smell bad but have some uses so if you want a female it may have to be grown by seed. The ginkgo tree grows best in Hardiness Zones 3–8.

We added a ginkgo to our permaculture farm three years ago, with any luck it will be here for many more because they can live to be over 1000 years old. They are the oldest living tree species and have been around for hundreds of millions of years.

We had these when I was in middle TN, but it seems to be too cold up here in the mountains of VA.

would it be best to just buy the tree instead of trying to grow it from seed or by propagation?

and as a source of food.

how is it consumed? what does the fruit look like?

great read!

We find it has a very mild plain taste.
Here in Canada it would be hard to find a female tree to buy no one we have been to sells the female trees.
Never consumed or seen a fruit of ginkgo tree ours is a male, in pictures looks like walnuts hanging from the tree and from what I read people mostly eat the nut in side.
Hope that helps

Wow! I didn't realize they could live to be 1000 years old. I also didn't know ginkgo was hardy down to zone 3; I will have to add this to our list of things to plant when we get out to our property. Thanks, Aimee
