MAPX continues to increase its SP and to test the TRENDO tipping token.
A brief update on MAPX progress. We have added to our SP and now have almost 8,700 STEEM of our own, with a voting SP of 10,400. We also continue to slowly divest ourselves of a number of token holdings that have brought in some decent profits but are now better spent on our voting power.
As I go through the general fund every day, it becomes increasingly obvious that most tribe tokens are failing miserably. Indeed, it is even possible to have a vibrant community and still see the token tank. Proof, if one was needed, that the economics of a token are not the same as the social value of a community.
Tokenomics is a separate part of a tribe's ecosystem and needs to be managed like an economy. That most admins are not economists is obvious, even if some like to pretend to be. So until I see these tokens pulling out of the dive, I feel I should divest myself of most of them.
Because MAPX gives out votes, the general policy has been to stake about half of those tokens received as rewards. This has built up a few modest holdings with the hope that they would add a little bit to those MAPX members who post in those tribes. As most of the values continue to drop, then so too is the value of any upvote of ours. Hence, I have decided to concentrate on our SP and, just to add an extra dimension to our program, any tipping tokens that appears to be viable and popular.
Hence our distribution of TRENDO tokens and, less often, some BEER. Both these tipping tokens have limits on their use, but they strike me as preferable to receiving micro-STEEM upvotes on a token of diminishing value.
This is also a stark and visible warning to those who seek to destroy the very foundations of STEEM and replace it with a menagerie of SMTs - beware the Pied Piper. I actually read the original SMT paper, and understood those perplexing graphs, and most of those combinations of parameters would lead to disastrous economies. Whether imploding or exploding, either would turn STEEM into dust. We see this happening with SCOT tribes, why will SMT communities be any different?
Those economic parameters that SCOT tribes play with are meant to ape those same parameters within the Steem economy, except - and this is a big problem - those tokens have none of the safety features built into Steem; there are no token equivalents of SBD, no price-stability measures, no hedging between a token and its debt bond. All these features that appear ever so complicated to many are there for a reason.
I have no doubts that I shall return to these topics.
Beware also the lure of the siren.
Read the above! :-)
A small plug for our big brother, MAXUV!
OK, time for a random bonus upvote!
Today's 10% upvote goes to... @bosmob. Congratulations!
You get a 10% upvote from MAPX and an upgrade to 2 votes per day for 10 days plus future TRENDO tips.
(If there are no recent posts that can be voted, you will still get the double votes set up.)
Enjoy your day!
