The Lodge is the 5th track from Agalloch's 2002 sophomore album, The Mantle, which released on 13th August. The Lodge starts with a brilliantly atmospheric opening of sparse sounds, hitting something that makes an incredible noise (apparently it's a deer skull!). This is accompanied by footsteps that crunch on the snow. That's one of the things I love about Agalloch, their ability to create an uncanny sense of winter atmosphere in basically all their songs. Their sound makes me feel like I'm alone in a winter forest. It's absolutely beautiful. The Lodge is one of Agalloch's more subdued songs. It is an instrumental and sticks to mostly acoustic guitar, adding to the wonderful atmosphere of the winter forest.
