Steem is Nothing Without the Curators

To put the matter more clearly, if not for the presence of curators here Steem will not be different from Facebook or Twitter where people get empty likes for creating contents.

Right from my early days on the Steem blockchain, I had great respect and admiration for Steem curators. Each time I read articles or watched videos about where the money on Steem comes from, I had more and more reasons to respect Steem curators.

The truth is that it will be impossible to reward content creators and even run the Steem blockchain had Steem not had a group of people who constantly defile the odds, buy Steem, and then power it up for the purpose of rewarding others and perhaps themselves.

It was why I wrote extensively in the weeks preceding HF21 that the 50/50 reward system was only fair and just. But I didn't stop there, I went a step further by putting my money where my mouth was. I ended up buying over 5k Steem Power to become a dolphin and a curator myself. I realized that it was not enough to create contents, one must also reward others.

Unfortunately, there are still a couple of people out there who believe that curators are overrated and are getting too much for merely curating, for merely clicking the upvote button, they say.

These critics forget that curators earn rewards not because they click the upvote button but because of their stake, what is otherwise known as Steem Power.

And frankly speaking, investment in cryptocurrencies is bad enough - it is even worse and scarier when such investment is locked up in Steem Power that takes 13 weeks to unlock.

So, curators take a big risk to reward others in a market that is greatly driven by speculations and greeted by surprises. While others holding liquid Steem can, before you say Jack Robinson, sell off their holdings and run, those who hold Steem Powers have lots of things to worry about - they are struck whether or not the market is moving up or going down.

I understand that content creators are also critical to the success of Steem, nevertheless curators are the only reason why people still get paid for creating contents.

To put the matter more clearly, if not for the presence of curators here Steem will not be different from Facebook or Twitter where people get empty likes for creating contents.

So, it is a good thing to see that HF21 has given more powers to the curators who are actually the engine powering Steem.

Hey, I am not saying that content creators are unimportant and irrelevant to the future of Steem. I am just saying that it is far easier to create contents than it is to take up the challenge of becoming a curator. After all, content creators have little or nothing to lose if Steem goes to zero tomorrow.

However, curators have everything to lose if their stake goes to zero tomorrow. Curators are like the owners of a company, they ride or die with the company while content creators are like employees - they go elsewhere when the company slides into crisis. Do not be deceived, Steem is nothing without the curators.

Until I come your way again, I wish you a full Steem ahead.

I hope that we can one day ascend from curators who made their money in an economy based on gold and oil to one of intelligence- even if we begin with a biased AI.

Unfortunately, we do not have that forgoten pure economy driven by American innovation. The modern world has reverted back to that of a Roman-Egyptian elitism. I suppose this power-driven governance perception is a necessary stage of economic change guided by common minds. Just that, I had wished we, as an American civilization, had appreciated the way in which we won over the war on Communism. Alas, we are only human and thus, must share in the lures that weakened the dominant Soviet class.

God bless. We have hope if only in truth. Still, let us keep our imagination, even when it seems futile, since the most blessed seeds can grow in the most destitute of places.

Steem needs a good mix of curators, creators, investors and developers. The interesting thing about being a user on Steem is that I can play all 4 roles at a time :)

Hahaha it is interesting to see things from your perspective. Playing all the roles at once is really great. Thanks for stopping by.

I believe that the curators commit to this project in the long term, they are part of the community and, like the creators of the contest, they are necessary people for the development of this blockchain.

I agree with you and share your sentiments too. Thanks.

Good view that i can relate to.

Steem blockchain is amazing it many ways. The #newsteem is a right step in the right way for curators.

Been building slowly my account. And i am here for the long run...

The problem for this blockchain is ppl needing dollars today, and not looking at the longer perspective!!

Keep steeming @gandhibaba :) we will do great.

Hello dear @gandhibaba, great article brother.

Your approach is very true, curators are an important part of steemit, people who risk their money to reward quality content, it is logical that this also generates profits for them.

But we must not belittle the creators of content, besides steemit in my opinion can not be compared with facebook, here you take away the reward and people leave the platform. I think that everything is part of a necessary balance on the platform and 50/50 is a symbol of the importance of both parties. half and half.

That is just my opinion.
@fucho80

It is a truth, true. We are the vehicles that take the content to its destination and They are the engine without which it would be impossible to move.

@gandhibaba, Absolutely, and the truth of the Matter is if there is no In then there is no Out so we should respect Curators and who are investing their Time and Money to bring value in their and other's life on Steem Blockchain. Stay blessed.

Sure, curators deserve great respect for their good works on this blockchain. As for us, let's keep growing our stake and influence, as we curate and create solid contents for Steem.

Hi @gandhibaba

It seem that almost every post you published is related strictly to Steem blockchain. You're relly seem to be deeply involved into this blockchain. Strong believer :)

I actually wonder sometimes if advanced AI won't be doing way better job in rewarding quality content and active authors (comparing to humans).

Luckily we're "safe" as long as we need to power up (pump real money) into this economy to have some "voice". That will surely be the only advantage over AI. Money and ownership (Which we have and AI doesn't). Anyway that's a totally different topic lol

there are still a couple of people out there who believe that curators are overrated and are getting too much for merely curating, for merely clicking the upvote button

It would actually help to know how many people out there do manual curating and how many curators rely mostly on steemauto.com or other similar tools. I'm afraid that most curators do not care about manual curating. They care about maximizing their rewards (which means tons of small auto-upvotes at posts published by popular people).

Good read. Upvoted already,

I absolutely agree with you that manual curation is somewhat hard and tiring and it's why curators are doing what is only suitable - Steemauto.

AI can help us discover quality posts that can then be curated by humans, good idea. Thanks for stopping by.

PS: Lately I admit that I've been writing a lot about Steem. I'm very passionate about the power and possibilities on Steem.
