Maligne Canyon Waterfall

8개월 전

The waterfall near the first bridge at Maligne Canyon just before winter set in. It was actually lightly snowing when I took this shot which helped to reduce the dynamic range and allow this to be taken as a single image. The snow was rendered invisible as it’s a 20 second exposure at f/16. It is a very deep canyon and I wanted to get a large depth of field with the f/16 without having to spend all day focus stacking. It is much deeper than it looks; if you scroll right back in my feed I have some shots of people ice climbing on this waterfall from the previous winter which provide a sense of scale. Great photo. Looks like the water is falling into the abyss. No bottom in site. Is that a small patch of snow/ice half way down?

Yes it is about half way down.

Howdy sir intrepidphotos! Man, that's a fantastic shot. I'll try to find the one where people are ice climbing it which sounds crazy!

oh man! lol.. thank you sir, I studied that photo, it's a remarkable sight! If they can get to the top part and throw the ropes down to tie onto it wouldn't be too bad but still that's a dang tall waterfall to climb. Also, the cold that it takes to freeze moving water like that is pretty impressive! Thanks for retrieving that for me!
