A Change is as good as a rest

It's been a funny old year for Crypto, and a funny old year in the Skiesandsports household. The last few months have had their fair share of downs early on, but the highs have taken over since then!

The biggest change

Like plenty of people here in the UK, we've been in rented accommodation for the past 8/9 years. We've not moved around lots, instead we found a place we loved and stayed there for as long as we could. Unfortunately our landlord decided to sell the house, pushing us out of the place we have called home for nearly a decade. This was the catalyst for what would become a transformative year for the both of us.

Self employment isn't the best when it comes to mortgages, and we'd never actually just been in to talk to someone about our options. As we suspected, our situation wasn't one that lenders were particularly keen to get involved with, but - to our surprise - it was still quite possible.

If you haven't read 'The Universe Has Your Back' by Gabby Bernstein then go read or listen to it now! Either way, we've never had such proof that the Universe does indeed have our backs as we did this year when it came to housing. Just as we were finding we could look for a house to buy one popped up that was just perfect in every way. It wasn't a straight line, but we got there in the end and four months later we have a nicer house than we could ever have imagined in an absolutely perfect area!

Turns out there are two 5 o'clock's in a day

I know, it was news to me as well.

I've never been a fan of early mornings. For as long as I can remember my dad has got up at 4.30AM every morning without fail. And it's always baffled me.

One of the perks of self employment is that you get to avoid all of the busiest times of day, and pretty much work whenever you want. As such I've simply never had the necessity for early mornings. A few weeks ago I was mindlessly scrolling through the internet when I saw something about early mornings. I was pretty sure I'd heard it all before, you know the kind of thing -

'You get so much more done!' - Why? What's the difference between me working 10am-6pm or 6am-2pm?

I watched the video all the same and yes, it was much of what we have all heard before. Except one thing that really got me interested. Getting up before 5am is ALWAYS crappy. But the willpower to do it stays with you for the rest of the day. When you're debating skipping the daily run you just think 'I got up before 5AM, I can do just about anything!'.

And it actually bloody works!

Well, for me anyway. At the moment!

I've been at it a couple of weeks now that we are settled in to the new place. I'm not doing it to be super productive, but I do tend to get in a morning run every other day. One thing it really has done for me is give me a little added motivation throughout the day. I've been running 6 out of every 7 days and getting into a really nice routine.

With that in mind, and a couple of extra hours in the morning where I can get some computer work done, I finally have time for a little more Steeming!

I can't wait to fill you in on what we've been up to. For now I figured it was about time I re-introduced myself, in a world where everything changes so fast four months is a long time! Now it's time to catch up with the Steemians I got to know!

What is the neighbourhood like around your new place? Lots of beautiful nature I hope!

I need to get on that early morning thing too, it sucks but damn it works! Though I would settle for 6.30, 4.30 is way too brutal, I did that for year and a half because of work.

I am glad it works for you... but come on... 4.30 is middle of the night! :P

I'm so glad you're back!
I have to admit that I'm surprised that you were able to get a loan, we've struggled when just one of us was self-employed, so I'm super impressed you got it done with both of you. I'm so glad though, there are annoying things that come with home ownership, but you can't be pushed out, and you can totally make changes to suit you and it's amazing...

A friend was telling me about this the other day... there's something that changes your chemistry about being up at sunrise, especially getting outside at that time... it helps you sleep more solidly that night, which puts you in a good place for the next day, etc.

Also, there are a couple of Steem running apps now that give you some change for your efforts... check out @exhaust for some extra funs.

Congratulations @skiesandsports! You received a personal award!
