Last time I showed charming Vicugna from the Moscow zoo .
Today I will add a couple from the Berlin Zoo. Photos taken in April 2015.
Isn't it very pretty these Vicugnas?

I told about the traditions of the Indians, for whom the vicunas were sacred animals. Nowadays, when the number of Vicugnas was restored, Peru also revived the ancient traditions associated with these animals. It is no accident in Peru. After all, the vicunas adorn the emblem of this country. Since 1993, the festival of vicuna has been held in Peru. At the same time, on the one hand, the local population was entrusted with the care of Vicugnas, on the other hand, the communities received the right to the sale of wool.
The holiday is called Chaccu and is held from May to October. A chain of several hundred people - local residents, and now often tourists - takes in a ring Vicugnas grazing in the area. People shouting and clapping to send animals to a special paddock. Here Vicugnas will be trimmed, getting the most valuable wool. This is accompanied by ancient rituals. Dressed in colorful costumes, Indians ask the gods for permission to use the gifts of nature.
After turning to the gods, they hold the so-called wedding of Vicugnas. This is a symbolic act, but a couple of Vicugnas have to suffer a little in the process. In male and female, one ear is incised and the leaked blood is collected. This action symbolizes the marriage of animals and, according to the beliefs of the Incas, guarantees their further reproduction. Blood is mixed with each other, as well as with wine. It is drunk by those who conduct the ceremony and honored guests. Tourists can simply anoint this mixture on cheeks.
After the ritual, all captured Vicugnas are inspected, marked, provided with the necessary veterinary assistance. Only adult animals are choose for trim wool, the coat length of which is not less than 3 cm. After shearing and inspection of all Vicugnas they are released into the wild.
