Released in 2004 Cellular phone was a huge hit from Bounty Killer. Bounty is the Godfather of modern Dancehall, he paved the way for many of the big names today such as Vybz Kartel, Aidonia, Busy Signal, Mavado, Wayne Marshall and many others.
I had a vibe to listen to this song recently as the sound is of a defining era in the music. When you hear the King Jammy's Riddim chopping with its hardcore beat and Jazzy tones you can't help but feel intrigued. This song was released 26 years ago in 1994 but still holds firm. Any Reggae DJ drop this tune at a party now, is sure to get a forward ( confirmation from the crowd).
On a side note, it is interesting to see how the flip phone has been replaced by touch screen smartphones. Flip phones were the thing back in the days, didn't have to worry about your phone screen cracking as it was protected in a "shell". I remember back in high school/uni I was one of the first to get a flip phone with camera capabilities. Looking at things now, we can do so much with our phones and a camera is a standard feature.
Enjoy this Dancehall classic from a living legend.
