14 And God answered Moses, I AM WHO I AM. And he said: Thus you will say to the children of Israel: I AM sent me to you (NIV).
God showed himself to his people in different ways and the Bible designates several names such as: Yahweh, Adonai, El, Eloah, Elohim, Hashem, Jehovah Shechina but really one of the names that designate God as something extremely large and indescribable is described in this quoted verse where God says to Moses: I AM WHO I AM.
God says these words to Moses because of the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress the people of Israel and tells him that He has come down to deliver them from the Egyptians and take them out of that land to a good and wide land to land that flows milk and honey and tells Moses to hurry to send him to Pharaoh and take his people out of Egypt.
Moises immediately thinks that he is no one to go to the Faron quickly think of his forces naturally and says: Who am I to go to Pharaoh and take out the children of Israel from Egypt?
but God answers him
Exodus 3: 1212
"And he replied: Go, because I will be with you; and this will be to you as a sign that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will serve God on this mountain." (RNV)
Moses continues to make excuses for his weak forces he feels to face Faraon but God knowing the doubt and fear tells him I AM WHO I AM expressing something too big and difficult to describe a powerful name that is above any desert and biggest storm that is impossible to go in front of him.
Actually the greatness of God overcomes every problem every difficulty there is no problem or storm that can overshadow the great power of God.
And that promise that God gave to Moses today is also a reality in our lives if we can believe it the same one who was with Moses yesterday to free his people today is also with us to free us from any oppression or slavery.
