The spiritual path: Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain, Psalm 119:36

2개월 전

The Book of Psalms teaches us that we must live in harmony with the laws and statutes of the Lord and not feed our greed and ambition at the expense of everything in the world, only the true goods such as mercy (compassion, kindness) and piety (constancy, devotion) preserve the life and the integrity of man: "Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word," Psalm 119:36-37.
We live in a society that exacerbates selfishness, the accumulation of money, and rewards competitiveness, but that this is a reality does not mean that it is correct. The human society has forgotten the ways of wisdom; and oppression and lies have taken the place of justice, and as a result, we live in a world convulsed by wars and secret conspiracies.
Selfishness is the wrong path in life, because when we are selfish we forget about the other, our neighbor, and we only pay attention to false goods such as money and power: "Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income" Ecclesiastes 5:10. Selfishness is the door to sin: "But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger" Romans 2:8.
Cain and Abel, the sons of Adam, show us the path we must follow and the path we must avoid, Cain's path leads to death, and Abel's path leads to true life: "If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it" Genesis 4:7.
Life is a perfection of God, and the creator of all things does not want death for man, the Bible teaches us the correct path of life, the spiritual path of mercy.
