How to reduce the electricity costs for digital billboard in 10 times or even more?

Digital billboard is expensive. If there is no access to the power supply, then it is doubled and triple expensive. New technology will reduce maintenance costs in 10 times or more.

The main reason why digital billboards aren't ubiquitous is the lack of high-wattage power supply. There is 1 mln billboards in the world. Only 10% of them are digital. 800,000 traditional billboards have no access to high-wattage power supply. In some cases, they source power from the lightning systems.

Digital billboards have only been installed in locations with high-wattage power supply. In other locations, supplying 1kW may cost up to several thousands of dollars.

Plus, a diesel generator needs to be maintained every 8,000 hours. It needs to be reassembled once a year. Maintenance costs of a diesel generator come close to the cost of a digital billboard. As a result, this pushes ad placement prices up.

How to solve the problem more economically?

I am not a electrical person so all I can do is dream and wounder... But it would seam to me, these build boards are high up, so why not attache some wind turbines to them? This in partnership with a solar panel or 2 and the lowering voltage cost for LED could push them into a more affordable state. Or, at least I think.. :D
