Project Details:

This is my first time to contribute to the localization of this project. I honestly did not know much about GitLab so I made sure to do a bit of research about the application before I started working on the strings. I figured it will help me grasp the meaning of what I will be translating to my mother tongue.

About GitLab

They boast of more than a hundred thousand users around the world, with organizations like SONY, BAYER, NASA, and even Nasdaq as their clients. GitLab shortens the cycle time of devOps so that only one single application is need for its entire lifecycle. This means tasks that were previously done separately can now seamlessly work together. How do they do this? By enabling Concurrent DevOps, wherein things are done simultaneously and collaboration across the organization is empowered. They promise "unmatched visibility, higher levels of efficiency, and comprehensive governance".

As part of my preparations, I also reviewed the General Translation Guide found in their website, which proved to be very useful indeed.

As indicated in the screenshot above, there are 1643 words in the Target Language, out of which, I translated 1367. The other 276 are variables and technical terms which should not be translated. Below are some of those terms:

  • GitLab
  • username
  • email address
  • Kubernetes
  • Fetch
  • Roadmap
    -Avatar
  • Parent
  • Token
  • Mirror
  • Pipeline
  • Job
  • Merge Request

While the screenshot below would show you some of the strings that I have translated to Filipino.

Hi @dandalion, Thank you for contributing to the Davinci-Utopian Translation project!
This is your 1st contribution to the translation category and 1st contribution to the translation of @gitlab project.

  • It's really amazing how you provide the information of Gitlab in detail, even though the detail is short it's still very informative.
  • The Overall translations are good there are only some minor imprecisions, I'm really glad that you're part of our team.
  • Hints! you may also encounter Job/Jobs, Environment/Environments on the strings that you are working. Please don't translate them, Just put mga before the Job/Environment if it's a plural.
  • btw you can put na after the %s here to make the translation more better.
